How fast do lithium batteries react at high temperatures downhole?

During normal operation, the battery temperature will gradually increase due to the heat generated by internal electrochemical reactions. If the Battery Management System (BMS) is not able to control it effectively, or if there are manufacturing defects in the battery, it may lead to a further increase in battery temperature.

When the temperature rises further, the positive electrode material begins to decompose, releasing oxygen, which reacts violently with the electrolyte, generating more heat and gas.

When the internal temperature of the battery reaches a certain critical point, the thermal runaway process will accelerate, which may lead to rupture of the battery case, gas leakage, or even combustion or explosion.
