Can lithium batteries spontaneously combust at high temperatures downhole?

Lithium batteries at high temperatures downhole are at risk of spontaneous combustion under certain conditions. Thermal runaway is one of the main causes of spontaneous combustion of lithium batteries.

Batteries subjected to mechanical external forces such as extrusion, pinprick or collision may result in damage to the internal structure of the battery, rupture of the diaphragm, causing internal short circuits and thermal runaway.

Unreasonable battery design, such as improper choice of electrolyte, diaphragm material not resistant to high temperature, etc., as well as defects in the manufacturing process, may lead to thermal runaway during the use of the battery .
