Does the depth of discharge (DOD) of a downhole battery have an effect on battery life?

Depth of discharge (DOD) is the ratio of the remaining capacity of a battery after discharge to its total capacity.

The depth of discharge of downhole batteries is something that can affect the life of the battery.

A shallower depth of discharge usually helps to extend the life of the battery. This is because a shallower depth of discharge reduces stress and chemical reactions within the battery, thereby slowing down the aging process. The greater the depth of discharge, the faster the battery capacity will decay.

In order to extend the service life of downhole batteries, it is recommended to avoid deep discharging and to keep the battery in a moderate state of discharge as much as possible to minimize the aging of the battery, thus prolonging the service life of the battery.
